E-mail: Recreation Department
Catoosa County's newest and largest recreation center is located approximately two miles off U.S. Highway 41 on Pine Grove Road.
"I consider this an extreme honor today that
we get to dedicate Jack Mattox Recreation Park,'' said L.C. Cripps, the
chairman of the Catoosa County Board of Commissioners, to the some 100
people that attended the dedication of the 55-acre recreation complex in
The recreation complex is named after Mr. Mattox,
the county's first and only recreation director.
"For his dedication, today we are able to
stand out here and look at these fields, the hard work that has gone
into the recreation, and we can dedicate these fields today to Jack
Mattox. May his memory
never be forgotten for the work and the dedication that he had for the
softball and recreation in Catoosa County for all these years,'' said
the chairman at the dedication.
The $1 million complex features seven lighted ball
fields, a walking track and two fishing ponds.
Future plans call for an office building, gym,
miniature putt-putt golf course, paved walkways and parking lot.
Chairman Cripps thanked former County Commissioners
James Moreland for starting the recreation department in the county and
also Jack Rowan for purchasing the property.
"This has really been a dream come true,''
said Commissioner Mark Fletcher, the commissioner who had oversight
responsibility for the complex.
"It is going to help all of us,'' said Commissioner Pat Page as she noted that the complex will allow Catoosa County to host softball tournaments and bring visitors to Catoosa County.
