AUGUST 21, 2007, 6:00 P.M.

PUBLIC HEARING # 2 ON 2007-2008 PROPOSED BUDGET

CALL TO ORDER

Chairman Clark called the public hearing to order at 6:00 p.m.  The following commissioners were present:  William H. H. Clark, Chairman; Ken Marks, Commissioner, District One; Robert R. Winters, Commissioner, District Two; Jim Emberson, Commissioner, District Three; and Dewayne Hill, Commissioner, District Four.

BUSINESS

Chairman Clark stated the purpose of the meeting was to receive public comments on the 2007-2008 proposed budget.

Judd Burkhart, Mayor City of Fort Oglethorpe.   He made the following points and requests:

·         Stated the City is requesting $267,000 from the County, which is a reduction from the $408,000 originally requested.

Said he hopes the County will grant Fort Oglethorpe’s request.

Robbie Tester, Post Volunteer Fire Department Captain.  Said Post Volunteer Fire Department is requesting the Board of Commissioners to put the budget back as it was the prior year, until the Fire Committee makes a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners to move forward with consolidation.  Mr. Tester stated Post has monthly payments to make and does not feel it is appropriate for them to have to request funds from the County every time a bill is due.

Bruce Ballew, Chief for Post Volunteer Fire and City of Ft. Oglethorpe Fire.  Said he is seconding Mr. Tester’s recommendation to put the budget pact to the way it was the year before for the Post Fire Department and the City of Ft. Oglethorpe Fire Department, until the Fire Committee has a chance to meet and make a recommendation to the Commissioners concerning consolidation.  Hopes the Commissioners will keep the citizens in mind when making these decisions.

There were no further comments from citizens.
