NON-EMERGENCY CALL TAKER – PART-TIME

PAY RATE: $12.50/HOUR – 29 Hours/Week

 

Summary:

This is an entry level position:  Answers non-emergency calls from the public; determines nature of the call; answers questions and redirects callers to the appropriate agency/department. 

 

Requirements/Responsibilities:

  1. Answer multiple phone lines; assess incoming non-emergency calls.  Transfers/connects calls to appropriate department, extension, service or agency.

  2. Contacts other departments to assist in solving problems within the community.

  3. Provides the general public with directions/referrals, answers to citizen complaints/concerns, and other information regarding the community.

  4. Performs clerical support tasks which may include making copies, sending/receiving faxes, locating telephone numbers and addresses, researching and contacting business/residence callouts and other housekeeping tasks.

  5. May be required to work in the event of inclement weather, manmade or natural disasters.

  6. Other related duties as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum High School diploma or GED.

  • Must be of good moral character.

  • Must have no felony convictions.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must be willing to accept shift duty, day or night.

  • Must have passed a strict, thorough, background investigation.

 

Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn the geography of the County and the location of important buildings and areas.

  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn general communications practices, federal, state and local laws especially those governing the use of communication devices and legal procedures; and the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Catoosa County Board of Commissioners.

  • Ability to learn non-emergency service methods, procedures, techniques and apply such knowledge to specific situations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both orally and in writing and to comprehend instructions.

  • Ability to deal professionally and fairly in interactions with the general public.

  • Ability to proficiently use a computer with Windows applications and spreadsheet applications.  Also, miscellaneous office equipment such as copier, fax and calculator.
