Board of Assessors - Appraiser I / Appraiser II

Full Time Rate Range:  $13.00 to $17.00 Hour and Benefits


Job Summary

This position is responsible for locating and appraising property to be placed on the county tax digest. The position will assist the appraisal staff in performing clerical and field data collection duties related to all appraisal functions. The work will be performed under general supervision and expected to carry out assignments independently and with team support in the office and in the field. Candidate would possess an Appraiser I or Appraiser II certification through the Georgia Department of Revenue.



  • Assist the Assessors Office in the field and office with daily workflow.

  • Measure and verify data of property improvements.

  • Enter appraisal data ownership records utilizing computer system and permanent records. Perform any other duties related to this position as assigned.

  • Assist with the public counter and phone providing information.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Georgia law pertaining to the taxation of real and personal property.

  • Knowledge of procedures used to determine valuations of real and personal property.

  • Knowledge of appraisal methods including selection and computation of appropriate factors influencing the value of residential property, agricultural property, mobile homes and personal property.

  • Knowledge of state laws regarding property tax and appraisal methods.

  • Skill in reading and interpreting maps and deed information.

  • Skill in statistical application and mathematical computations.

  • Skill in dealing with the public.

  • Ability to represent the office of the Board of Assessors and Catoosa County in dealing with the public in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Ability to represent the office in Board of Equalization hearings of appeals.

  • Ability to communicate with the public.


Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Valid Driver’s License.
