PAY RATE: Minimum-$24.50/hour – Maximum-Depending on Experience/Qualifications



  1. Responsible for ensuring all new construction, alterations to existing structures and installation of mobile homes comply with International Building Codes and Catoosa County adopted codes and standards.

  2. Inspects electrical, plumbing, mechanical, framing and gas installations.

  3. Knowledge of code books, periodicals and literature regarding construction, electrical, gas mechanical or plumbing.

  4. Coordinates, oversees, schedules, plans and participates in work operations of the Building Inspection Department.

  5. Supervises and manages all Building Inspection Department personnel.

  6. Responsible for oversight of daily work methods, procedures and standards.

  7. Responsible for efficient review of plans and specifications.

  8. Responsible for prompt, fair and accurate inspections of work in progress.

  9. Responsible for development and adherence to departmental budget.

  10. Responsible for preparation and presentation of departmental reports.

  11. Must exhibit good judgment and discretion and adhere to guidelines when processing sensitive or confidential information.

  12. Knowledge of code books, periodicals and literature regarding construction, electrical, gas mechanical or plumbing.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Preferred Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of experience in a progressively responsible administrative management position dealing with codes and standards, interpretations and effectively dealing with and applying regulatory standards.

  2. Preferred International Code Council Certified Residential and Commercial Building Inspector (ICC) or willing to earn ICC Certification within one year of employment.

  3. Must possess a valid Drivers License.

  4. Must possess and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.



  1. Ability to deal effectively and efficiently with the general public and other governmental offices.

  1. Ability to read, research, and interpret code books.

  2. Ability to prepare and maintain a departmental budget.

  3. Able to climb stairs, stoop and bend during the performance of inspections of structures during all construction phases.

  4. Able to conduct inspections in all weather conditions and variable shifts.

  5. Ability to crawl in small areas.

  6. Able to traverse uneven terrains during performance of duties.
