Colonnade Technical Director – Full-time

Pay Range: $13.00/hour


Job Duties:

  • Maintain safety compliance and cleanliness of the theater including the seating, booth and attic spaces.

  • Assist in budget preparation for theatrical productions.

  • Oversee the set-up and proper operation of stage and related equipment such as lighting and sound systems, rigging systems, orchestra pit and flooring and seating areas.

  • Ensures supervision of rehearsal activities.

  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections of theater equipment; including lighting system, sound system, and rigging, audiovisual equipment to include projectors, microphones and sound mixers.

  • Ensure all technical elements are set to client specifications clients specifications by troubleshooting technical difficulties related to the audiovisual equipment being utilized. 

  • Maintain the theater ticketing system.

  • Coordinate and train volunteers for all areas necessary for a theater production to include stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; costuming; stage management; stage carpentry; appropriate safety precautions in use of tools associated with stage carpentry.

  • Design and implement creative elements for theatrical productions to include lighting, sound, sets, and costumes.

  • Responsible for ticket sales, group sales and school matinee sales.

  • Responsible for community outreach and public relations.

  • Responsible for organizing, implementing and directing workshops and summer camps.

  • Schedule and organize group and individual tours of the theater.



  • Associate degree in theatre. Relevant theatre experience may be substituted.

  • At least two years of theatre experience.

  • At least one year of audiovisual experience.

  • At least one year in a customer service-oriented environment.


Skills and Knowledge:

  • Able to follow verbal or written instructions, with excellent communications skills.

  • Able to maintain professional image, appearance and conduct towards all clients and/or public.

  • Must be able to work all hours of the day including early mornings, nights and weekends.

  • Excellent organization skills are necessary as well as the ability to multi-task.

  • Strong computer skills are necessary.

  • Ability to analyze the technical needs of an event or production.

  • Ability to design and construct sets using appropriate tools.

  • Ability to design lighting and sound elements for a production.

  • Ability to lift, push or pull up to 100 lbs using appropriate tools and methods.
