JOB OPENING: Post until Filled

Public Works  – Public Works-Heavy Equipment Operator- FULL TIME

SALARY RANGE: $16.50 – $17.50

Nature of Work:
Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in the operation of motorized
equipment and a variety of manual tasks in connection with such given operations; performs
related work as required.

Requirements/Responsibilities:

  • Completion of a High School Diploma or General Diploma Equivalent (GED).

  • Minimum of three (3) year’s operating light to heavy equipment as it related to roadway maintenance.

  • Inspects, services, and adjust fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires and clutches; changes filters, oils, tires, and lubricate vehicles and motor driven equipment.

  • The equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

  • Valid Driver’s license and safe driving record (requires a Class B license, prefer a Class A).

 

Some Essential Job Duties:

  • Operates a variety of small and large motor vehicles and equipment (Gradall, grader, dozer, chipper, tractor, excavator, etc.)

  • Performs a variety of heavy manual work (e.g. construction and repair of sidewalks and roads, etc.)

  • Uses hand tools, cleans, sweeps, and performs basic maintenance tasks (e.g. cleans, oils, fuels and greases equipment, etc.)

  • Performs a variety of horticultural tasks (e.g. mowing, mulching, weed whacking, tree trimming, etc.)

  • Installs and maintains emergency barricades at flooded areas or emergency sites.

  • Works as a flagger, as needed.

  • Adjust work assignments and schedules in the event of an emergency to participate in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery  activities as assigned.

  • Attend required training for licensure and/or certification.

  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.


Skills/Abilities

  • Operation and minor repair of equipment used in Public Works in all weather conditions.

  • Minor repair and maintenance of equipment.

  • Understand and execute oral and written directions.

  • Perform work in a safe and timely manner in all weather conditions.

  • Read, interpret and possibly write documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.

  • Manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.

  • Lift up to fifty pounds without assistance, possibly more with assistance.

  • Perform intensive manual labor in all weather conditions.
