Zoning/Building Inspection

Permit Technician – Full Time

Pay Range - $13.50 - $15.50 per hour

     

Job Summary

 

  • Maintain records, computer files and other manual logs on all business licenses, alcohol license and building/zoning/stormwater permits and complaints.

  • Serve as clerk for the Alcohol Board.

  • Assist with E-Verify and S.A.V.E. programs, as needed.

  • Responds to questions from business owners, and the general public; and researches and resolves problem situations.

  • Receive, review and assess building/zoning applications relevant to permit requirements

  • Receives, and enters business license payments; and balance payments with statements and account records.

  • Corresponds with unregistered businesses within the County and advises them of the need to obtain a certificate.

  • Receives and processes applications for privilege licenses (i.e. alcoholic beverage, occupational tax, etc.).

  • Researches, updates and maintains occupational tax information and related databases to include mailing address, billing information, etc

  • Maintains, according to retention policy, building, zoning, stormwater, occupational tax and alcohol license files

  • Educate customers on general code compliance and issue licenses/permits as authorized.

  • Prepares annual occupational tax invoices.  Receives monitors and enters tax payments from business owners in the County.

  • Prints and mails occupational tax invoices for registered businesses.

  • Calculate and verify valuations and fees; accept payments; issue permits as authorized.

  • Assist Building/Zoning/Stormwater Inspectors in coordinating inspection requests and by performing code, records research and compiling data.

  • Perform clerical duties for Inspectors.

  • Balance daily receipts and prepare appropriate daily accounting reports.

  • Respond to public inquiries in writing, by telephone and in person.

  • Efficiently answer multi-line telephone system and transfer/forward calls appropriately.

  • Efficiently and effectively manage multi-tasks and projects to completion within expected timeframes.

  • Other duties and direction deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the Zoning/Building/Stormwater Departments.

Education and Experience

·High School diploma or equivalent.

  • At least two years experience involving extensive public contact, preferably in the building and/or zoning fields.

  • Minimum one year administrative/secretarial experience required.

 

Skills

  • Able to proficiently operate all office equipment, including computers, Windows and Microsoft applications.

  • High attention to detail and accurate follow through for departmental goals.

  • Good Communication skills, both verbal and written and able to get along with diverse personalities in a tactful, helpful, courteous and professional manner.

  • Able to Multi-task.
