PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER

PAY RATE: $50,000 - $60,000 annually– (position includes benefits)

 

The purpose of this position is to serve as the Public Information Officer in aggressively pursuing opportunities to promote the County. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency, effectiveness and propriety of a variety of County functions and operations.


Job Duties:

  • Develop and coordinate Countywide marketing plan and works with Department Directors to gather pertinent information to share with the public.

  • Publishes a monthly newsletter to inform citizens of County events and issues; prepare brochures and graphic arts for various County events.

  • Develop and maintain an awareness of County Programs and events, and regularly contact various groups, associations, and the news media; develop various types of media for promotional and educational purposes, to enhance media relations, and the increase the visibility and credibility of the County government.

  • Interacts with the current and prospective citizens and businesses to answer questions concerning County programs.

  • Serves as webmaster for the County’s website; oversees the training of departmental web coordinators.

  • Engage public through Social Media, manages Facebook page, Twitter Account, and YouTube page, as well as interfaces with other department Facebook pages to share information, keep citizens engaged and generate positive stories; evaluates social media data analysis, generates reports and schedules regular posts to maintain citizen engagement.

  • Responds to calls and questions from the news media; schedule interviews; prepare press releases.

  • Complete special projects as assigned by the County Manager.

  • Attend committee, commission, departmental and related meeting during day-time and evening hours.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in communications and/or marketing.

  • Five years of increasingly responsible positions with experience preferably in communications and/or marketing.

  • Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is acceptable.

Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of marketing and public information principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of open records law.

  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

  • Skill in prioritizing and planning.

  • Skill in interpersonal relations.

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

  • Skill in business letter writing.
