PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER/DEPUTY COUNTY CLERK

PAY RATE: $35,000 - $45,000 annually (position includes benefits)

 

The purpose of this position is to assist the County Clerk in the operations of the County Office and to serve as the Public Information Officer in aggressively pursuing opportunities to promote the County.  Successful performance contributes to the efficiency, effectiveness and propriety of a variety of County functions and operations.

 

Job Duties:

  • Develop and coordinate Countywide marketing plan and works with Department Directors to gather pertinent information to share with the public.

  • Publishes a monthly newsletter to inform citizens of County events and issues; prepare brochures and graphic arts for various County events.

  • Develop and maintain an awareness of County Programs and events, and regularly contact various groups, associations, and the news media; develop various types of media for promotional and educational purposes, to enhance media relations, and the increase the visibility and credibility of the County government.

  • Under the direct supervision of the County Clerk, interacts with the current and prospective citizens and businesses to answer questions and address concerns; track and resolves complaints.

  • Serves as webmaster for the County’s website; oversees the training of departmental web coordinators.

  • Engage public through Social Media, manages Facebook page, Twitter Account, and YouTube page, as well as interfaces with other department Facebook pages to share information, keep citizens engaged and generate positive stories; evaluates social media data analysis, generates reports and schedules regular posts to maintain citizen engagement.

  • Works under the direction of the County Clerk to respond to calls and questions from the news media; schedule interviews; prepare press releases.

  • Assists with providing requested information regarding records of the Board of Commissioners as part of public records and/or direct citizens to other departments appropriate; respond to routine questions/complaints and initiate problem resolution.

  • Assists with preparation and distribution of agendas and informational packets for Commission Board Meetings.

  • Assists with Ascertaining training schedule for County Commissioners, scheduling for same and maintain files to confirm that the Commissioners have completed State required training courses/hours.

  • Assists with coordinating arrangements for Board meetings and other meetings involving the Commissioners, including room/facilities, setup and agenda/materials.

  • Assists the County Clerk in coordinating special County events.

  • Perform a variety of specialized administrative support functions.

  • Assist in preparation for and occasionally attend committee, commission, departmental and related meeting during day time and evening hours.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Five years of increasingly responsible administrative experience preferably in communications and/or marketing.

  • Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is acceptable.

 

Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of marketing and public information principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of open records law.

  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

  • Skill in prioritizing and planning.

  • Skill in interpersonal relations.

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

  • Skill in business letter writing.
