Public Works  – Public Works-Light Equipment Operator II - Full Time with Benefits

SALARY RANGE: $13.00 – $14.50

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operates a variety of small and large motor vehicles and equipment (i.e., pickup truck, dump truck, tractor, bobcat, chipper, etc.)

  • Performs a variety of heavy manual work (i.e., construction and repair of sidewalks and roads, etc.)

  • Uses hand tools, cleans, sweeps and performs basic maintenance tasks.

  • Repairs roadways and streets (i.e., shoveling mix off truck, shoveling gravel and dirt, etc.)

  • Performs a variety of horticultural tasks (i.e., mowing, mulching, weed whacking, tree trimming, etc.)

  • Installs and maintains emergency barricades at flooded areas or emergency sites.

  • Works as flagger when needed.

  • Hauls refuse from roadways and other sites.

  • Adjust work assignments and schedules in the event of an emergency to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery.

  • Performs related duties as required or assigned within job classification.


Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

  • Two years of experience operating light to moderate size motorized equipment as it related to roadway maintenance; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.


Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of and ability to properly operate mowers, trucks, vans and other light motorized equipment in all types of weather conditions.

  • Able to administer minor maintenance and repair of equipment.

  • Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations and applicable state and local ordinances.

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools.

  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written directions.

  • Efficient and safe operation of assigned equipment.

  • Ability to follow safe operating procedures.

  • Ability to communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor and the general public.

  • Work effectively in all weather conditions and all terrains.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.

  • Able to lift 50 pounds.
