Public Works - Traffic Maintenance Tech B – $13.75/hour


Responsibilities & Duties

  • Measures and lays out center lines, crosswalks and other line marking by using a measuring tape.

  • Performs and assists in the installation of traffic warning signs, speed control, and other signs.

  • Performs and assist in painting traffic guards, barricades, and raised traffic bars on pavement, and installing reflectors and other devices.

  • Installs or repairs signs on standards at the proper designated location, angle, and height according to the standards established by the Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

  • Assembles signs on the job site with electric drill and hand wrenches.

  • Fabricates, maintains and stocks signs to be kept current according to standards as issued.

  • May operate paint or sign truck as assigned.

  • Performs a variety of horticultural task (e.g. mowing, mulching, weed whacking, tree trimming, etc.)

  • Operates a light to medium duty pickup truck

  • Picks up and delivers mail, supplies and equipment.

  • Locates and removes refuse from County property or County Right-of-Way.

  • Assists higher level maintenance staff at job sites (e.g. shoveling, digging, loading and unloading).

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Must possess and maintain in good standing a valid Drivers License.

  • Completion of approved DOT Flagging class.


  • Knowledge of proper use, handling and care of small tools and equipment used for the position.

  • Able safely lift heavy objects.

  • Knowledge of Current MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices)

  • Able to drive light duty pickup truck.

  • Able to apply acquired knowledge of procedures, rules, regulations and services applicable to the assigned office.

  • Able to listen to, understand and follow verbal and written instructions, policies and procedures.

  • Able to effectively work in all weather conditions.

  • Able to multi-task.

  • Able to communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public.

  • Able to consistently walk, use hands and arms to operate tools, and to lift and/or move a minimum of 80 pounds.
