Public Works -Landfill Maintenance Technician Full Time with Benefits - $15.50-$18.00/hour 


Job Summary

Performs daily operations in all aspects of the Inert Landfill and Methane Landfill Gas Collection System for the County. Collect and record data, sample testing as required by operating procedures, by permits and by Federal, State, and local regulations. Evaluate information and make decisions effecting the day-to-day operations of the Landfill. Duties include the safe Operation of equipment and vehicles.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs daily operations that maximize the performance of the Inert Landfill and the Methane Landfill Gas Collection system for the County.

  • Attends required technical training sessions to improve knowledge of State and Federal regulations for Landfill. • Performs daily operations that comply with permits, regulations, and County policies and procedures.

  • Operates equipment/vehicles safely and for intended purpose, oversees preventative and routine maintenance of equipment.

  • Maintains reports on Inert Landfill operations and gas collection system productivity and efficiency.

  • Assist in diagnosing or troubleshoot gas collection equipment and system.

  • Read meters, gauges, or automatic recording devices at specific intervals to verify gas collection systems operating conditions. • Operate computerized control panels to manage gas compression operations.

  • Monitor gas collection system emissions data.

  • Records data for landfill gas collection systems to demonstrate compliance with safety and environmental laws, regulations, or policy.

  • Inspect landfill or conduct site audits to ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations.

  • Complies with gas collection landfill operations, including leachate and gas management operations.

  • Follows procedures for normal operation, startup, or shutdown of methane gas collection

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • One-year experience operating Methane Landfill Gas Collection System and Inert Landfill operation.

  • Experience in the operation of front-end loader, backhoe, tractor or equivalent combination of training.

  • Must possess and maintain in good standing a valid driver’s license.

  • Landfill Certifications


  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force frequently.

  • Understand and execute oral and written directions.

  • Able to work in a teamwork environment.
