Public Works Administrative Secretary

$13.00 - $16.00/hour with benefits


Job Duties:

  • Efficiently and effectively answer multi-line telephone system and transfer/forward calls appropriately.

  • Take and record messages and forward in a timely and appropriate manner.

  • Maintain good public relations in a helpful, courteous and professional manner.

  • Obtain needed information and/or assist citizens requesting general information or wishing to file complaints regarding roads/drainage issues.

  • Perform tasks with unscheduled interruptions.

  • Must have good communications skills – both verbal and written and be able to get along with diverse personalities in a tactful, courteous and professional manner.

  • Exhibit good judgment and discretion and adhere to guidelines when processing sensitive and/or confidential information.

  • Must multi-task and complete projects within expected timeframes.

  • Efficiently and appropriately type letters and reports as assigned.

  • And, as assigned, other duties deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the Public Work's Department.



  • Minimum Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of one year working experience as a secretary or other administrative experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Prefer some college or technical schooling with a focus in Office Management.



  • Able to proficiently use computers.

  • Able to proficiently use miscellaneous office equipment and calculator.

  • Able to multi-task requiring high level of detail.

  • Ability to communicate accurately and clearly both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to think clearly and quickly when dealing with visitors and callers.

  • Able to proficiently use Microsoft Office products and email.

  • Must have superior organizational skills and accuracy.

  • Must have problem solving and people skills.

  • Able to exhibit good judgment and discretion while processing confidential and/or sensitive information.
