Recently promoted to Assistant Fire Chief, Brad Buchanan began his fire service journey as an Explorer with the Trenton/Dade County Fire Department in 1988. During this time his interest in the fire profession grew as he was able to participate in various drills, training, and answering calls with the Fire Department. As soon as Chief Buchanan reached the age to become a registered volunteer, he obtained the training necessary and his State Certification to fight fire. In 2011, Chief Buchanan accepted a position with Walker County Emergency Services. In 2012 he completed his Emergency Medical Technician and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, acquiring National Registry in 2013.
Chief Buchanan joined the Catoosa County Fire Department in 2013. During his tenure with Catoosa County he has obtained his Level II Instructor Certification from the Georgia Department of Health which allows him to teach the Emergency Medical Technician and Advance Emergency Technician courses. In 2015, Chief Buchanan obtained Instructor Certification for extrication in accordance with NFPA standards. Chief Buchanan received his first promotion from Fire Fighter to Lieutenant in October 2017. In 2018, Chief Buchanan obtained his Level I Fire Instructor.
Chief Buchanan has obtained training and certification in various courses such as Structural Fire Control, Practical Fire Ground Hydraulics, Health and Safety Officer, Leadership and Development, Managing Company Tactical Operations, HazMat Awareness and Operations, Rescue Systems, S-190, S-130, and L180 Wildland classes.
